Do you pay a nanny per child? If so, how much are you paying her?
Basically she gives you this number so you can track her down and if needed, can you give her a ride home if she’s late? There’s also a $1/hr raise if she’s late or sick.
How have others determined hours? Have them enter the hour and time zone. If you live in a Midwestern area, it’s 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 a.m. CST. If you live in Arizona it’s 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST.
Hi. My daughter is in a nanny share with one other child from a different family. We each pay $12/hr so she makes a total of $24/hr for the two children. I would like my second child to join the share for a few months but I don’t know what to increase the nannys pay to. I’ve heard $2 increase is standard (so I would pay $14/hr for my two kids). Any advice or experience is greatly appreciated!
I think the way you have to look at it is what’s the *total* going rate for 3 children. Divide that by 3 and then you pay two parts and the other family pays one part. I’m out of the loop because it’s been 15 years since my child graduated from nanny care.  But we did have two and then 3 kids in our share. 15 years ago it would be approx $18 for one child, $24 for 2, and $30 for 3. Something like that.  So if the nanny is caring for three children at once, the family with one child would pay $10, and the family with 2 would pay $20. Ask the nanny what her rate is for 3 children. Then you pay 2/3 of that.
Caring for 2 toddlers plus an infant is much more demanding for the nanny than just the two toddlers she has now (I am guessing you and the other family each have a toddler). Another $2 an hour does not seem like fair compensation for the added workload involved to do infant care plus manage the other two.  Moreover, since adding in an infant will mean less attention for the two toddlers, the other family might feel they should pay less, now that there are 3 in the share.

It seems to me that if you are working from home and want to retain a nanny, you should be paying at least some of the wage you think is appropriate. If you are working from home, would it be unreasonable to expect the nanny to work from home, or would it be unreasonable to expect her to get sick leave or two at a time if she were to take on another workload?
It sounds to me like your vacation or sick leave is a separate issue. If she were to take on another workload, it would be because she was sick and wanted to go back to work. I really don’t think that is what you are asking her to do. If she were to go back to work and do another job, that would be a different story. But I would expect her to pay more if she were to go back to work and do a different type of work. It seems to me that if you are working from home and want to retain a nanny, you would have to find a different way of working the two machines. That is, if you were to watch another child from now on, would you be able to afford to pay for sick time or vacation time? Or would it be better to leave it to the nanny to figure that out yourself?

We have two full-time nannies who each work from 7:30am to 6:00pm. We start them at 2:00pm and they continue her at 1:00pm. I have heard of one family even going as high as 2:00pm and receiving a maximum of one child.

I have another pay question — about a live-in nanny. We found a great person whom we’d like to pay at the rate of $10 an hour for our two kids, for taking care of our 17-month old son and paying for gas and other equipment. In response to the question about salary, we read in the New York Times that a nanny earns $15 an hour babysitter for two children, ages 5 and 2.8. That figure is for two children, ages 5 and 2.8. We have a very good, experienced, full-time nanny who looks after two children, we are willing to pay $8 an hour for that, and many other things. How much more reasonable it would be to have a nanny who can watch two children, especially since one is an infant, to pay $15.
