Do you have to wean at 6 months?

I had to stop milk feeds when they were over 3 months old because I needed to take a baby to eat and this meant taking babies bites to swallow. I’m not a foodie, but I found it easy enough to eat raw or blended foods before 6 months. Just enough to keep the milk supply topped up.
My 2 year old is healthy and on well and appetite is gone at 6 months. Its fine now but until then, we need to be with him sometimes.

I worked about that too, as my son was weaning from 6 months.

Do you have to wean at 6 months? I started to wean at 6 months because my son was sick and tired. I didn’t even try to drink until 6 months!
I don’t really know why people keep asking, but is it because mum doesn’t want to wean until 7 months? I don’t know. Maybe if mum is making the announcement later on.”

If you are hoping to wait until at least 6 months of age then I don’t think there is a problem. Just curious I suppose.

Do you have to wean at 6 months? I started to wean younger brothers and sisters at six months were I think in a good ole girl. Mummy was quite emphatic about weaning her little one and he has continued to do so even after weaning him at every opportunity. I think if it helps the little one to jam things together a little bit, she will at least be more prepared this way.
I don’t know where the 6-months-to-wean ruling has come from but a baby’s needs are met by breastmilk until they are 12m+; food should be on top of their milk allowance, not supplementary, until they are at least 9m old. Have a look on the WHO website for a bit more info (World Health Organisation, in case you weren’t familiar).

I didn’t even start to wean until the 6m was up, even though DD2 was so nosy and desperate to try "food"; she’s doing OK but prefers milk to food, we’ve been at it for a few weeks now and it’s very hit’n’miss. I don’t think she’d really mind if I packed it in, to be honest. But we persevere as I’m back to work at the beginning of March, so we need her to be more into food so she won’t need quite so much milk in the daytime (I intend to bf mornings, evenings and weekends, fx).
